The Future of the Teachings of Jesus
The Coming Deliverer (Ep. 64)
Prophecies of the Divine Deliverer
April 2026
The time of the end. In the second chapter of Daniel the great prophet predicted what has become known as “the time of the end.” This time is often thought of as the end of the world, but this interpretation is not correct. “The time of the end” does not refer to the end of the world, but rather to the end of the present world order. It is a time when the world as we know it will come to an end. It is the time when the corrupt and failed kingdoms of men will be destroyed and replaced by the coming of the kingdom of God to rule over the nations. Here is Daniel’s famous prediction of this time:
44And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall its sovereignty be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand for ever (Dan 2:44).
The announcement in heaven. Here is how this momentous event of the destruction of the kingdoms of men and their replacement by the kingdom of God is announced in heaven:
15Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever” (Rev 11:15).
God sends a divine Prince to destroy the antichrist. These verses from Daniel and Revelation refer to the time when the antichrist will assemble all the nations allied with him at Armageddon, march south to Jerusalem, and occupy the city. At this point God will intervene in earthly affairs and send a heavenly Prince to destroy the antichrist and his forces. This divine Prince will then rule the kingdoms of men in Jesus’ name forever. Revelation describes this event in chapter 14 with these words:
14Then I looked, and lo, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat upon the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe. 16So he who sat upon the cloud swung his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped. (Rev 14;14-16).
The Ancient of Days give the divine Prince dominion over the earth. Here is how Daniel describes this sending of a divine Prince to deliver Israel and rule the earth forever:
13I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. 14And to him was given dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed (Dan. 7:13-14).
Jeremiah’s prophecy of the divine deliverer and ruler. There are numerous prophecies of this heavenly deliverer and future ruler of Israel. The following prophecy is from Jeremiah:
5Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely (Jer 23:5-6).
Isaiah also predicts this coming of a divine deliverer. Isaiah also predicts the coming of a heaven-sent warrior-Prince who will deliver the Jewish people. He will come up to Jerusalem from Bozrah in Edom. Bozrah and Edom were located in what is today, southern Jordan. Here is his prophecy:
1Who is this that comes from Edom, in crimsoned garments from Bozrah, he that is glorious in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? “It is I, announcing vindication, mighty to save.” 2Why is thy apparel red, and thy garments like his that treads in the wine press? 3“I trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath; their lifeblood is sprinkled upon my garments, and I have stained all my raiment. 4For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and my year of redemption has come” (Is 63:1-4).
The identity of the divine deliverer. Thus, it is apparent that there are many prophecies of a coming divine deliverer who will appear at the time of Jerusalem’s fall and conquer the antichrist forces occupying the city. However, none of these prophecies identify this mysterious figure. At the beginning of the previous passage from Isaiah the prophet asks, “Who is this that comes from Edom, in crimsoned garments from Bozrah?” (Is 63:1) This question will be explored in the coming episodes.
